亡羊补牢英语作文
Mending the Fold After the Sheep Are Lost
Once upon a time, there was a man who raised a flock of sheep. He used柴草 and树枝围了一个羊圈,虽然看起来不是特别坚固,但也勉强能够保护羊群。He built a sheepfold with firewood and pegs, and herded the sheep inside it every night.
One morning, the shepherd went out to graze his sheep and found that one of them was missing. He searched around and discovered that the sheepfold had a broken hole. That night, a wolf had crept in through the hole and taken one of the sheep.
The shepherd was upset but realized that it was too late to do anything about the broken fold. However, a neighbor advised him, "Don't worry about the lost sheep. Instead, mend the fold and plug the hole. That way, you can prevent more sheep from being taken."
The shepherd took the neighbor's advice to heart and quickly repaired the fold. From then on, he made sure to check the sheepfold regularly and keep it in good condition.
This story teaches us an important lesson: it is better to address issues promptly rather than waiting until it is too late. By mending the fold after the sheep were lost, the shepherd was able to protect his remaining sheep and prevent further losses. This proverb, "Mend the fold after the sheep are lost," emphasizes the importance of taking action to correct a mistake or problem as soon as possible.
